Building a practical quantum radar is a major challenge. This is because the atmosphere creates a high level of microwave noise, with a background noise level of approximately = 3000. We show that the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for correlations between the idler and the received signal can be improved. This is done by two-mode squeezing a noisy state [1] instead of a vacuum state. The existing initial noise actually helps to overcome the noise in the channel.
For example, a target with very low reflectivities of η=10⁻⁷ and η=10⁻⁹ can be detected using only M=30 and M=250 copies, respectively. These numbers are remarkable, as most existing literature requires η=10⁻² and M=10,000 copies. This method can also be used to transfer classical information through nanowires by encoding data in the degree of squeezing [2].
At the end of the talk, I will also mention recent advances in the electrical control of optical properties. This includes the continuous control of nonlinearity [3], emission lifetime [4], and extraordinary optical transmission [5]. These are all key elements for developing integrated quantum circuits.

土耳其量子光学专家Mehmet Emre Tasgin教授,现任Hacettepe大学全职教授。2009年获比尔肯特大学物理学博士,研究方向为量子纠缠、超辐射BEC与等离激元纳米结构等,主持科研项目10余项,发表PR系列、Nanophotonics等高水平论文50余篇,任土耳其量子光学学会创会会员,曾获土耳其科学院杰出青年科学家奖。
